The FCSA welcomes Chris Bryce as new CEO

The Freelancer and Contractor Services Association (FCSA) has confirmed that Chris Bryce is taking over as CEO (previously the CEO at IPSE), replacing Phil Pluck. Keep reading for more information about the change in CEO and a brief introduction to the FCSA’s new leader.

Farewell to Phil Pluck, and a big thank you

Phil Pluck joined the FCSA as CEO in July 2020 and had significant experience working with professional membership organisations. Before he took the role as CEO at the FCSA, he was the CEO of another membership organisation, the Glass and Glazing Federation. He was also the Managing Director at the Royal Town Planning Institute.

Earlier in his career, Phil also had a role as director at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) – implementing many positive changes.

Throughout 2021 and under Phil’s leadership, the FCSA has been actively engaging with the government to help protect the supply chain of temporary workers. The FCSA remains the most prestigious and recognised self-regulating body in the contractor payroll marketplace. This is thanks to its continued efforts to enforce compliance upon the supply chain, especially its members (umbrella companies, contractor accountants, suppliers of temporary workers, CIS payroll providers, and more).

The FCSA also updated its Codes of Compliance in 2021 to ensure they are better suited to the ever-changing industry. It is now more challenging than ever before to obtain accreditation from the FCSA.

If you’re a contractor or freelancer seeking an umbrella company for your payroll, we highly recommend you only consider using one with an FCSA accreditation. The process to obtain FCSA membership is thorough, and no stones are left unturned.

From the team at umbrellacompanies.org.uk, we would like to say a massive thank you to Phil Pluck for his tireless work in improving the supply chain of temporary workers and promoting compliance. We wish him all the best in his next endeavour.

Welcome to Chris Bryce, the new CEO at the FCSA

Chris Bryce will undoubtedly be a familiar figure to those who have experience within the contractor and temporary staffing sector. He was formally the CEO at IPSE – The Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed. Having accepted the interim CEO role at IPSE in 2013, he was offered the role permanently in December 2013, and he remained the leader for over six years until leaving the position in March 2020.

Before his career at IPSE, Chris had been a long-term contractor with years of experience in global scale change management. He also worked in sales and marketing.

Chris brings decades of valuable experience into his role as CEO at the FCSA, and we look forward to seeing what he can help the membership body accomplish during his tenure.

Chris said the following regarding his appointment as CEO of the FCSA:

“I’m delighted to join the FCSA as its new CEO. My overall aim will be to ensure all parties in the supply chain – especially contractors served by the organisation’s members – can expect the highest levels of compliance, transparency, and reliability from FCSA accredited members.

“I also want to ensure the FCSA itself continues to be synonymous with being recognised a trusted partner within the industry, which acts independently and with integrity.”

The Chair of the FCSA, James Burrows, said:

“The board is delighted to announce that Chris Bryce joined the FCSA as our new CEO in January 2022.

I’d also like to thank the outgoing CEO, Phil Pluck. Since his appointment in early 2019, Phil has done a sterling job at the FCSA; ensuring our members achieve the highest standards of compliance with both the letter and the spirit of UK law. At the helm of the organisation, we’re excited for Chris to carry on the vital work of setting and influencing industry best-practice.”
