New works in Scotland to drive contractor demand

There’s an excellent chance that umbrella company contractors in Scotland are about to experience an renaissance in demand thanks to new works about to begin.

The good news in particular comes from Scottish Water with its newest announcement that it’s going to need an absolute army of freelancers and contract workers over the next six years to complete the work its recently awarded to its wastewater and water infrastructure alliance partners. One of those partners, Caledonia Water Alliance, is already planning to recruit contractors in droves to help them complete new infrastructure assets, maintenance on existing infrastructure, and upgrading older systems that are in dire need of refurbishment.

This is of course fantastic news for any contract worker that’s looking for some new work over the next few years. In fact, the agreement between Scottish Water and its partners is going to last a sum total of six years to be exact, so this could be a welcome meal ticket for any contractor that’s looking for some long-term work.

Honestly I’m just chuffed to bits to see that a nice public/private sector partnership like this is moving forward to update Scotland’s water and wastewater infrastructure needs. Everyone knows that when you leave the Government to their own devices without any interaction from the real world they tend to muck things up left and right, so hopefully these new alliances and partnerships will ensure that this six-year infrastructure programme will run smoothly.

Well, at least I have high hopes it will run smoothly – or at least higher hopes than if this was just a public sector project. Not that I don’t have the utmost respect and faith in our Government. Then again, I wonder how this initiative will change – if at all – if the Scots vote for independence? Of course plenty of people don’t ever think that will happen, what with a long track record of people constantly voting against their best interests, but you never know. Sometimes people get it right, after all – and even a stopped clock is right twice every day!
